The Kitchen Safe Allows You to Transition to a Raw Food Diet Effortlessly

Changing your diet takes willpower and as you transition to eating more raw, plant-based foods, you’ll find an invention like the Kitchen Safe invaluable.  A plastic container complete with a tamper-proof lock with timer built into it, the clever storage item was part of a successfully Kickstarter campaign that generated $41,991 from 779 backers in a 45 days.

The Kitchen Safe is the brainchild of David Krippendorf, Ryan Tseng, and Nick Tseng.  Krippendorf battled junk food cravings that were so severe that he needed to invent a solution to curb them.  He called upon his former MIT grad school classmate, Ryan, for assistance.  As the company grew, Tseng brought on his brother, Nick, for additional support.  The result was a wildly successful invention that can be used to avoid temptation while making lifestyle changes.

Rather than take a chance with a bag of cookies while switching to a healthier, plant-based raw food diet, you can avoid temptation by locking the snack item away for an indefinite amount of time and see if your cravings subside.  Once the lid is closed and the timer is set, the Kitchen Safe cannot be opened until the digital read out reaches zero.  Even if the batteries die, the original time set will continue to count down once the AAs have been replaced. This keeps you from binging on the foods you’re trying to steer yourself away from.

Two Styles to Choose From

The new invention comes in two styles to choose from-clear or white (for hiding items and building anticipation).  It measures 6” wide x 6” long x 6.5” tall and can hold 3.5 quarts worth of contents.  The Kitchen Safe is BPA-free making it a safe place to store food.  The timer can be set from one minute to ten days depending on needs.  It runs on two AA batteries which will last up to 6 months under normal use.

Cleaning the Kitchen Safe is Easy and Hardly Any Work at All

The Kitchen Safe is easy to clean by hand.  Just remove the lid and wash the container with mild detergent and warm, soapy water.  Refrain from putting it in the dishwasher.  It also is not freezer-safe so keep it out of there.

An Invention That Keeps You Honest

As you’re doing your best to phase out dairy and cooked foods, you’ll appreciate an invention like the Kitchen Safe for keeping you honest.  If eating healthy is your goal, you stand a better chance of succeeding when you have a cool gadget to use.

Rather than reach for high calories sweets, you’ll satisfy your cravings with something natural like Sun Gems Sunflower Crips or Living Granola.  You’ll learn how to prepare your own raw foods like Live Babaganoush and Smooth Coco Pudding.

Inventors like Krippendorf, Tseng, and Tseng identified a need and fulfilled.  Their success is a testimony to the effectiveness of a new wave of interactive health and fitness products flooding the marketplace.  In addition to raising the funds needed to fulfill orders and launch their invention, they exceeded that number because people valued the idea behind the unique storage container that they created.

The Kitchen Safe is available for purchase through the company’s website.  It retails for $39.95.  International shipping is available making the invention the perfect gift for people around the world.  The company anticipates shipping orders soon.

The Benefits of Drinking Water

“Drink water because it’s good for you.”  It seems like this is something we’ve all heard many times throughout our lifetimes yet many of us don’t drink near enough water as we should on a daily basis.  H2O helps with more than just hydration.  It improves your overall health.  So to help make it easier to drink more water, let’s take a look at some of the benefits of drinking at least 64 ounces of the clear stuff each day:

  • Drinking Water Helps Maintain the Balance of Body Fluids. Your body is composed of about 60% water. The functions of these bodily fluids include digestion, absorption, circulation, creation of saliva, transportation of nutrients, and maintenance of body temperature. (WebMD)
  • Water Can Help Control Calories. For years, dieters have been drinking lots of water as a weight loss strategy. While water doesn’t have any magical effect on weight loss, substituting it for higher calorie beverages can certainly help. (WebMD)
  • Water Helps Energize Muscles. Cells that don’t maintain their balance of fluids and electrolytes shrivel, which can result in muscle fatigue.  During exercise, experts recommend that people start drinking fluids early, and drink them at regular intervals to replace fluids lost by sweating. (WebMD)
  • You Won’t Feel Exhausted or Fatigued.  The body uses water to flush out toxins and body waste products.  When your body is lacking water, your heart will have to work harder to get oxygen to all the cells.  Also, your other vital organs have to work harder to do the same which means your organs will be exhausted from all the work and you will, too.
  • Water is a Natural Headache Remedy.   Water helps to relieve headache and can also help relieve back pains due to dehydration. Although many factors can contribute to headache and back pain, dehydration is the leading reason.
  • You Will Feel Healthier and Less Likely to Get Sick.  If you didn’t know it already, water helps fight against many ailments such as the flu, kidney stones, and even heart attack.  Add some lemon to the water and you help fight rheumatism, arthritis, and respiratory disease.  Water helps your immune system more than you realize.

So, with only six benefits of water listed here, you can already start to see how the simple act of drinking enough water daily can change your life significantly.  If you don’t like water, look for ways to make it taste better.  Fruit slices like strawberry and lemon as well as sliced cucumber flavor water well.  Keep some on hand at all times so you’ll be sure to keep drinking H2O each day.

Foods That Hurt or Heal the Body

The foods you eat can play a major factor in your health.  Heart disease, high cholesterol, diabetes, food allergies, gall stones, kidney stones, ulcers, plus a host of other conditions can be traced, in part, to what you eat.  Despite the negative rep, your diet can also help you fight and even defeat some diseases.  It’s all about choices.

Food as Medicine

Many foods can help you fight disease. Others do nothing for you, despite what you have heard.  Some foods can really harm you.  Here is a list of a few food facts and myths:

  • Honey –Although many people swear that locally produced honey will help fight seasonal allergies due to the pollens in it, they are pollens that most people are not allergic to. Another myth: if you are diabetic and have switched to Agave Nectar, it is up to 90% concentrated fructose and is not much healthier for you than sugar, honey, high-fructose corn syrup, or any other sweetener.
  • Fruits – Eat fresh whole fruits as often as possible, plus you can eat fruits packed in their own juices. Stay away from fruits canned in heavy or light syrup and miss out on the extra sugar.  Is fruit really good for you? Yes, but eat it sensibly. While it can add vitamins, minerals, and fiber to your diet, it is also high in fructose and excess fructose is stored away as fat!
  • Vegetables – If you love fruit, remember tomatoes are a fruit! And so is zucchini!
  • Proteins – 50% of your proteins should be in the form of vegetables. Spinach and kale smoothies mixed with your favorite fruits make a nutritious breakfast. And nuts, seeds, and beans will help you maintain a healthier body weight plus add a variety of health benefits including helping to avoid or fight cancer, diabetes, high cholesterol, and kidney stones.
  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids – Found in fish (salmon being one of the best), flax seed, and walnuts can lower cholesterol and help lower your risk of heart disease. Eat tuna no more than once a month or avoid it and its high levels of mercury all together. Wild salmon is healthier and contains less of the harmful toxins found in farm raised salmon. (Store bought salmon should be marked either way.)
  • Vinegar, Cranberry Juice, Lemons, and Beer vs. Bladder Infections – Urinary Tract Infections can be treated to an extent with apple cider vinegar (two teaspoons to a glass of water), cranberry juice, lemonade, and to a smaller amount, beer. Cranberry juice is often recommended to help fight bladder infections. However, cranberry juice is high in oxalate, which can promote some types of kidney stones. If you have kidney stones, drink lemonade and cranberry juice if you don’t.

Five Ways to Make Yourself a “Morning Person”

Are you more of a “night owl” than a “morning person”?  Want to put a spring in your step and get the most out of your daytime hours?  Here are five ways to change your perspective about getting out of bed in the morning:

  • Make one hour all about you.  Keep in mind that in order for something to become a habit, you’ll need to do it for thirty days.  Start out by setting your alarm clock one hour earlier than you usually get up and use that time to do something nice for yourself.  Read a book, write in your journal or create a recipe for your family to try using ingredients you have in your kitchen.  You’ll learn to look forward to and cherish the time you’ve set aside for yourself each morning.
  • Get a good workout in.  Getting your heart rate up early in the day helps jump start your metabolism.  Regular exercise prevents deadly disease and boosts your mood naturally.  If you want to start the day off on the right foot so to speak, take a brisk walk around the neighborhood and see how motivated you feel afterwards.
  • Create a morning ritual that fuels the soul.  Don’t ever fall into the trap of “I don’t have anything to do.”  Create a ritual that you can get lost in.  This can be brewing a pot of coffee and reading the newspaper before going to work, writing a to-do list in colored pens to keep you organized and on task or doing some research online before tackling a big project.  It’s amazing how a few minutes in the morning can determine the course of your day.
  • Use affirmations to get the day started.  Affirmations are short, powerful statements that help motivate you.  They affirm the positive thoughts produced by your subconscious mind.  Affirmations are tools used by some of the most successful people in the world.  If you want to make your morning amazing, start out with an affirmation like, “I can do anything I set my mind to,” and see what transpires.
  • Eat a healthy breakfast.  Your body needs good, healthful food for energy.  Don’t skip breakfast.  It is the most important meal of the day.  This is especially true if you started your morning out by exercising.  You’ll need to replace the calories you burned.  Choose fresh fruits and vegetables, seeds and nuts, and whole grains for nutrient-rich, low calorie meal options.  You can find plenty of inspiration through recipe websites and

There are plenty of reasons to be happy about with each passing day.  Even if you’re reluctant to change, do so anyway.  Small adjustments to your schedule often lead to bigger and better things.  Before you know it, you’ll be bounding from bed with newfound energy.
